I swear I have such a love/hate relationship with traveling.
I love going on trips because, I mean, they’re a blast. When you’re on the road you get to see so many different types of people, and you notice that the world is big and small at the same time. Plus, when you’re on the road, you can try different food and maybe have some small splurges here and there!
I always feel a little better about what I do on the road because it is different from the everyday. I mean if I am somewhere with great beer, I am going to get one. You only live once guys! Plus, who knows when you will get back to that place?!
On the flip side, I hate going on trips because I get so stressed out about making it to the airport on time for my flight(s). I am that perpetual traveler that shows up 2+ hours before a trip and I stress all the logistics. It’s really annoying and it even annoys me. However, I will say that I am getting better about going with the flow – I think age/experience does that to you.
As I type this, I am hanging out at the PF Chang’s in the Atlanta Airport. I am on my way to visit my Maid of Honor and her amazing family in Dallas! It’s kind of like my last hurrah before I start my new job.
I am sitting in the bar area and have a good view of the activity outside of the airport’s bland terminals – so that’s good. It’s a beautiful day, but terribly cold!
I am warming up with some delicious lettuce wraps and an iced tea! Holla. I skipped on the alcohol so far because I feel like I will ingest plenty while working on wedding plans this weekend. If there is any excuse worth drinking alcohol, I think that wedding planning is one of them – that’s some stressful crap.
So far today has been a great day!
I woke up this morning and tried something a little different. Today I made my first bulletproof coffee and it was PERFECT.
You maybe be wondering what the eff bulletproof coffee is, because it is a weird name for a drink. Honestly, the first time I heard about it I was all, “Does it have extra espresso in it or what?” No guys, no it doesn’t necessarily.
Now that I have had this magical drink, I doubt I ever go back to regular coffee because it is pretty much perfection in a cup.
For those of you that don’t know bulletproof coffee, which can also be known as butter coffee, it is coffee that is brewed hot and blended with butter or coconut oil. If you want to be anal about what it is you can read more here. Wikipedia-ed that sh&t for you all!
You may be wondering what made me want to try this weird type of coffee…
I will agree that I thought it was weird at first when I heard about it. I was all, “Why would you ever add butter to your coffee?! I hate butter. That is gross!” While it’s true I hate butter and find adding oil to my coffee even kind of strange, I got inspired to give it a-go!
If you have been keeping up with my blog then you know I love podcasts. Honestly, you can learn so much from them and be entertained at the same time!
So a podcast that my fiance and I have been digging on is, “Is this Podcast Paleo?”
The podcast is weekly and is hosted by Kristin Kaschak, who is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and Everett Rosette, the man behind Paleo Fat Kid. Kaschak and Rosette cover everything Paleo, Crossfit and in-between. The pair is really fun to listen to and I love the fact that they are not afraid to use expletives, because if you know me expletives are a part of my dialogue. (Sorry parents).
On the podcast, during most episodes, they talk about butter coffee (or bulletproof coffee) for a minute. You see, Kaschak drinks butter coffee every morning. In fact, she loves it so much that her names on social media and her blog are, The Girl with the Butter. Here is her Instagram if you want to follow her. Kaschak uses the butter coffee as an extra way to get the right amount of fat into her diet in the morning, and she always speaks on how effing delicious it is.
So after listening to 40 or more episodes of their podcast so far (we came onto them late) both my fiance and I were intrigued by this way of drinking your coffee.
Well, my fiance has been out-of-town for over a week now, due to his job, so I have been experimenting with things until he comes home. Today, because I am a freak of nature and stress about airports, I woke up at 4:45 AM and decided to make a version of this coffee drink to see if it lived up to the hype.
I took out our blender that needs to be retired for something better, and I added my morning scoop of collagen to it. Then I brewed a fresh cup of Starbucks Vanilla and dumped it into the blender. After that I heated up some coconut oil and added two tablespoons of it to the blender and blended it up.
Guys, I cannot tell you in words how good it was.
The coconut oil not only gave me that fat that helps fuel me since I stay clear of gluten, but it gave me the sweetness of sugar and cream – which is a huge deal to me. You see, since going Paleo, the one thing I have really struggled with is my morning cup of LIFE. Typically in the mornings I brew my coffee, add the collagen, add some blue agave and then add some almond milk – it is kind of a let down.
You could say I am beyond excited that I love this new way of drinking coffee!
On another note, on my first flight a guy recognized me from my old job. It kind of made my day…actually it did make my day. The guy (who was probably about my age) asked if I sign a lot of autographs – which made me laugh because he is one of the few people to recognize me away from a racetrack.
So basically today has been a success!
Anyway guys, I have to jet – literally. I hope you maybe try butter or coconut oil in your coffee someday because it was life changing. You should listen to the podcast too, because they’re really interesting to listen to and they talk about how people can be douche-bags in the gym which is SO TRUE.
